| William Shakespeare was a legendary English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. Born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's works include 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and several narrative poems. His plays, such as _Hamlet_, _Othello_, _King Lear_, and _Macbeth_, are considered some of the finest works in English literature. |
